The 5 Biggest Mistakes New Internet Marketers Make
Posted by Nathan in Internet Marketing Coaching, New People Start Here
It’s very common for new Internet marketers to make mistakes when they first start out.
This is because there are so many little things to get right and if you get one thing wrong it can stop you making any money and make Internet marketing very frustrating.
Here are the five most common mistakes new Internet marketers make so that you can avoid them and get a fast start in your Internet marketing career.
1. Focus
One of the biggest pit falls new Internet marketers make is not focusing on one business model and following through no matter what until it is successful. They do a little bit of this and then a little bit of that and believe if they have several things going, they have more chance of succeeding and finding a winner. The real truth is that it is the opposite. Without focus nothing gets traction and you end up with several projects not working.
2. Shinny Object Syndrome
The worst part about Internet marketing today is all these “Magic Bullet System” “10K in One Month” “$547.76 per Day” rubbish. It’s so easy to fall for these shinny objects because you want to believe it’s possible so much, but all they do is keep you from building a real business. The way those people are making money online is by selling YOU their products. The Internet is changing though and soon these marketers will no longer be fooling people and will either have to adapt or disappear.
3. It’s a REAL Business
Internet marketing is an industry like any other. Many people make the mistake of believing that internet marketing is a “Get Rich Quick” solution. However if you want long-term success then you must start treating it like a real business and understand that you need to invest time and money to build a business that lasts. It’s no different to wanting to become a lawyer or an accountant, you have to put in the time to study and learn your craft.
4. More Out, Less In
One of the best things you can do is ‘Unsubscribe’ from 90% of emails coming in to your inbox on a daily basis. Many are just marketers sending you offer after offer. Emails are one of the biggest time killers today and yet people are not guarding their time like they should be. It all comes down to, are you the one currently reading emails or sending them? One of them will be making you profit and the other one will be stopping you build a successful business.
5. Trying To Do It Yourself
One of the best things you can do is to get a mentor. This one step is going to save you YEARS of time. Why not learn the ‘right things’ you should be doing straight away? Yes it will cost you some money but TIME is 100x more valuable than MONEY. Money is unlimited. You time is limited and is running out everyday.

Hi Ray, it’s so common for new people to make them. The big one is jumping from thing to another because what they are doing is not working.

Nice post; I came over here from SPI. I think the get rick quick mentality and shiny object syndrome really combine to do harm to aspiring IMs. There are just so many “experts” out there peddling products that distract and compel you to start something new instead of sticking with what you’ve started.
